Whirlpool Care Counts Web Experience

breaking the cycle

Whirlpool’s Care Counts Laundry Program is helping to break the cycle of chronic absenteeism in schools.

One in five students doesn’t have access to clean clothes. Some students don’t have access to laundry facilities at home, for others, doing laundry is cost prohibitive. Without access to clean clothes, many students skip school instead of risking being ostracized for wearing unwashed clothing. This problem compounds—students who are chronically absent between 8th and 12th grades are 7x more likely to drop out of school completely. Whirlpool’s Care Counts Laundry Program installs laundry machines in schools so that students without access to clean clothes can have their laundry done at school which gives them consistent access to clean clothing, reducing their risk of chronic absenteeism and in turn, their potential for dropping out. Since the program’s debut, the program has spread to 40 states and has significantly decreased the risk of becoming chronically absent for students attending schools that take part in the program.

Brief

Whirlpool asked us to re-do their original one-page web experience to spotlight the expansion of the program, its success, and to add additional multimedia components like motion graphics, an interactive map, and docuseries video content.
